A Student Perspective: Amanda Dobrzynski

March 31, 2015

This past month, the Clinic has found good company with Amanda, our most recent pharmacy extern student from Ohio Northern University.  All of the students who spend time with us here at Health Partners get the opportunity to gain hands on education in medicine, as well as grace.  Amanda was no exception.  In her student perspective below, she reminds us all how fortunate we are to spend time at a facility like Health Partners:

It is difficult to put into words what an amazing experience I have had at Health Partners Free Clinic. This rotation has given me the opportunity to develop a compassion for the uninsured and under-insured. Since the moment I stepped foot in the Clinic I was treated like I was a part of the Health Partners’ family. I have never encountered a group of people so patient, giving, and kind. Throughout my career in pharmacy and everyday life I hope to exude these same characteristics.

On my first day, Justin, the director, explained to me how he developed a passion for helping the under-served. I did not understand fully what this meant until I witnessed him on a daily basis going above and beyond what is expected in order to provide the optimal patient care. This Clinic strives not only to provide care for the uninsured and under-insured, but to provide the BEST care. Additionally, the Clinic is constantly evolving and improving to carry out this mission.

I was also amazed at how many volunteers selflessly dedicate their time and talents for the benefit of the patients. The volunteers range from phlebotomists, nurses, and secretaries and always manage to have a smile on their faces. It is very inspiring to see how many people in the community are willing to donate their time for patients who have no where else to turn. In a population that may be used to being turned away for financial reasons, the Clinic provides a warm and inviting environment for everyone regardless of financial status. This experience has shown me that everyone deserves high quality healthcare regardless of financial status.
