Inadequate health coverage has a direct impact on the health of the place we call home.
You’ve heard about the growing numbers of uninsured and under-insured individuals in America. You may think it’s only a problem in the big cities… but it hits close to home:
- More than 20,000 of our Miami County neighbors under age 65 do NOT have adequate health insurance coverage.
- Approximately 88% of the uninsured/under-insured ARE employed.
- More than 3,300 jobs were lost in Miami County in the most recent recession. Most of the newly created jobs are in the service sector, and do not offer health insurance.
- There have been significant budget cuts in programs designed to help the underserved, including Medicaid. Some programs have lost ALL funding.
There IS something you can do. And you don’t have to be an MD or an RN to help…
